Romain Latry

Founder. Not a clinician.

I am not a doctor, a dietitian, or a scientist. I want that at the top of the page rather than buried at the bottom, because on a site about your health it is the first thing you should know about whoever is writing.

My grandfather had kidney problems for years. It ended in dialysis, and then a transplant. Watching that happen over a long time, from close up, is what put kidneys in my head in the first place.

Later I started reading the kidney stone literature properly, and what struck me was the gap between what is known and what patients are actually told. A great deal is understood about why stones form and what changes the odds of forming another. Almost none of it reaches the person who has just been discharged from an emergency department with a leaflet and an instruction to drink more water. That gap is not a research problem. It is an education problem, and education problems can be fixed.

So I started this. Right now it is my own project rather than a company or a charity — I intend to register it as an association before the end of 2026, and until that is done the site says plainly that it is one person's work. What it exists to do will not change: explain what the evidence actually says, help people find clinicians who do prevention rather than only treatment, and give them tools that make their next appointment a better one. It takes no money from supplement manufacturers to say nice things about them, and it never will.

I work at Withings, which makes a urine-analysis product in this category. Withings has approved my involvement here, has no editorial input, and provides no funding — but you should know about it, so it is disclosed on any page where it could possibly matter.

Material connection

The author of this page is employed by Withings, which manufactures one of the products described. Withings has no editorial input and does not fund this site. Products are listed on identical criteria and none is scored.

This author does not review content clinically. Pages that advise a reader what to do carry a separate clinician's name, or they do not publish. See the editorial policy.
